Welcome to PowerBase *.* Volume 5!
----------------------------------
To open the PowerBase *.* Desktop and begin
exploring immediately, make your floppy the
current drive and type POWER5 at the DOS prompt.
The help file (accessible with the F1 key when
you're running the PowerBase Desktop) has more
hints to help you make the most of PowerBase *.*
Volume 5.
Copying Powerbase *.* To Your Hard Drive
If you wish to have the tips on the PowerBase *.*
Volume 5 diskette at your fingertips at all times,
you can copy the entire disk to your hard drive by
following these instructions. First, enter the
command
MD C:\POWER5
at the DOS prompt to make a directory for the
files on your hard drive. (If you'd rather use a
different name, that's fine.) Then, enter
XCOPY A:\*.* C:\POWER5 /s
to copy the contents of the PowerBase *.* disk
onto your hard drive. (If you've chosen to install
into a directory other than C:\POWER5, remember to
change the destination in this command as well.)
The XCOPY command will copy not only the PowerBase
Desktop and the tips, but also the samples, the
utilities, and the macros. But don't worry about
overflowing your hard drive; the full year's worth
of tips and goodies have been squeezed into less
than 300K of file space.
Finally, if you've put PowerBase *.* Volume 5 on
your hard drive, you'll probably want to add the
directory C:\POWER5 (or whatever you've chosen to
call it) to the PATH statement in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file for fast access. Otherwise,
you'll need to be in your PowerBase *.* Volume 5
directory to run the PowerBase *.* Desktop.
Enjoy!
